TRUST IN THE MOONLIGHT- a New Painting

Trust In The Moonlight. Original (SOLD)
Prints available in my etsy shop.
"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain."
-Joseph Campbell

...............

I love painting owls because they help me to get back into my comfort zone whenever I get frustrated with creating something new. In that way, I find my creative flow again and start experimenting with new supplies, characters, and techniques.

This is one of the owls I share from start to finish in my new online class HOW TO PAINT AN OWL 2.

For this piece, I really played with layering different art supplies.

I dug deep into my supply closets and pulled out lots of favorite things that I hadn't used in a while... origami papers, oil pastels, and chalk.

From there, I had fun building up all of the colors and layers.

With the moonlight as her guide, she flies, trusting she will find her heart in the in between spaces.

Have a lovely weekend!

xoxo,

CAPTURE THE STARS- a New Owl Painting

Capture the Stars. Original SOLD.
Prints available in my etsy shop.

Lately I've been thinking about keeping everything simple. So I felt inspired to create a simple black and white owl.

This is one of the owl projects I share in HOW TO PAINT AN OWL 2

I just love painting on these wood plaques with beveled edges. I usually find them at craft stores in various sizes and add a sawtooth hanger on the back.

I delight in painting on anything where the painting can curve around the sides and be admired from all angles.

Capture the Stars. Original SOLD.
Prints available in my etsy shop.

For this painting, I went back to layering some of my favorite art supplies like origami papers, pencils and paint markers.

And from there, this white owl fell into place and got its story...

While flying around the world, experiencing as much as she can, this owl has learned it is possible to CAPTURE THE STARS

LEARNING TO FLY- A New Owl Painting

Learning To Fly.  Original SOLD.
Prints available in my etsy shop.

I have to say, painting this little owl was one of the most fun paintings I've ever created.

This is one of the Dream Owl projects I share from start to finish in HOW TO PAINT AN OWL 2.

Sometimes it's just so lovely when a painting falls right into place. And with this piece, from the beginning, I knew it would be an owl at night.

To create this piece, I started with layers of painted pages for my background.

Then I added all sorts of collage papers, acrylic paints, and inks.

I imagine this owl as having never been in flight, but dreaming, day and night, about what it might be like... in preparing for the real thing. And from there, this owl got its name and story...

With eyes closed, allowing inside all the peace and calm of the world, this owl is LEARNING TO FLY

SENSE OF PURPOSE- a NEW Owl Painting

Sense Of Purpose. Original Sold.
Prints available in my etsy shop.

“Life isn’t as serious as the mind makes it out to be.” -- Eckhart Tolle

...........................

Painting this owl reminded me to trust in the creative process, be bold and find joy in beautiful mistakes.

I had intended to paint a close up owl, but when I went ahead and created my background, I was in the mood to layer lots and lots of bleeding art tissue paper. And if you're a regular reader of this blog, you know that sometimes the bleeding art tissue can lead to some major color splurges and blends, and not always just where I'd like. That's part of the beauty of it.

But I painted this owl as one of the projects for HOW TO PAINT AN OWL 2, so I knew I had to take my own advice and just try something, knowing I could cover it up if I didn't like it.

Sense Of Purpose. Original Sold.
Prints available in my etsy shop.

I fell in love with the ways the colors popped and merged when I added my top coat. And added a bit of acrylic paint, sharpie paint markers and ink on top of the tissue to make everything blend together.

And from there, this owl got its title and story...

With faith, this owl flies always connecting with a deep SENSE OF PURPOSE.
