.....................

Lately paintings for me have been happening in pairs.

This little fox and bear are compliments. I love it when that happens.

I think, in part, it happens because my artwork comes from such an emotional, introspective space. Then the characters I paint in the same few hours exude similar intentions.

But also since I tend to experiment with SO many different art supplies, the paintings I create side by side tend to have similar layers.

These two are full of acrylics and oils.

I've been loving mixing the two. I've often heard people say you can't mix oil and water-based supplies, which really made me want to try it even more.

And now it's my favorite thing to layer acrylic paint, then cover it up and scribble into it with shiva oil paint sticks (even while the acrylic is still wet). I adore the texture and randomness that gets created.

And from there, these two pieces got their stories...

Carry. Hold on. Stay strong. Be calm. Throughout the journey be grateful... IMAGINE the possibilities.

With great strength, courage, honor, hold true with integrity. Do not hold out on yourself. SEE POSSIBILITY.

ps. Sending out my newsletter soon-ish with a free desktop background and lots of new artwork.

  1. I was mixing the two different sorts of paints but had to get rid of my oils because I always ended up feeling sick with the smell every time I used them so now all I use is acrylics only.

    1. Hi Merle,

I started using water soluble oils and shiva oil paint sticks (neither has any odor). I love them both, especially since I’ve felt the same way about smelly oils. However I use the oil paint sticks the most. I can’t even find my oils right now, so I’m not sure what brand the non-smelly water soluble oils are that I use, but I found them at my local craft store.
