NEW mixed media embellished ART CARDS

lately, i am really loving working on little creative projects. it's such a fun way to combine a whole new set of art supplies together in all new ways!

for these cards, i had the idea to cut up all of these strips of colored origami papers. i had my doubts about what i was doing though and before i even began nearly stopped myself by thinking, "cutting all of these strips is going to be a lot of work, especially if the final card doesn't turn out."

but i've learned to let those doubts go and just flow with whatever creative inspiration and mood hits me. and it was pretty weird gluing all of these strips down in no apparent order, but i made it work. and that's the thing that i constantly remind myself...because the colored pieces alone aren't what made the cards so sweet.

i didn't stop there. that was just the creative force that got me going.

what made these cards work was the thought to add a bit of ink over the top of the paper strips to add depth and make them merge with the print. then, it was thought to embellish more with glitter, charcoal, spray paint, stencils and white polka dots.

it's all the creative process at work.

creating little projects like these cards and my art journals really pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me try something new.

  4. such a neat way to combine prints in a new format...i often start to think something looks flat or uninspired and get to the point where i start adding a little ink here, a little depth there but there's always a moment in the process where i mildly panic and think, "eh, this isn't turning out like i'd wanted" or "i don't much care for this" and that's when i leave it alone, only to return later with ink pads and pens ;)

the colored strips probably were a lot of work but they look fabulous (and i also see a greeting card license in your future)!

  7. These look wonderful and so personal. I sometimes have left over prints that aren't up to scratch and also add stitching on the sewing machine or even tear/cut them up and reassemble the pieces in a whole new collage but in card size. This way you can add all those little leftover embellishments that just float to the bottom of your work tray. I'm really inspired by your touch this week Juliette and think I will head over to your class. See u there. Kerry
