these two bears were definitely unplanned. i don't usually sketch two characters, but these days it seems they all want to be in pairs. 

for this piece, i pulled out all of my favorite new art supplies. i really went crazy with my vintage postcard collection and pasted tons of ephemera in the background. then i added a few elements from my sketchbook.

i knew i'd wanted to paint a bear, but the crown just sort of came out of no where. and i love how the birds and butterflies from the vintage postcards come through. i also added book pages from James and the Giant Peach...so fun to have a bit of children's book inspiration in there too.

Together these two bears stand with great concern and honor, knowing that wherever they are needed they will forever be WITH ONE HEART, CONNECTED.

I hope you enjoyed a lovely weekend! I've been nursing a cold, but spent lots of time painting in my studio, enjoying old movies and watching the leaves change here in Wisconsin.
