be with me

TITLE: Be With Me. Prints available in my etsy shop.

sometimes these little characters just come right out of the canvas. this painting was one that i was really having fun with smudging lots of bright colors through the background. the ground was already red, but i just got some red india ink and had so much fun adding a thin layer on top, making the color even richer and more vibrant.

then i saw this bear between the colors. his posture and everything was there, so i went with it. he seemed sort of sad and lonely just standing there alone, sort of looking lumpy, so i added the barren tree and white dots as snow flakes. the paper on his belly is from a birthday card and the heart on the floor is made of the same paper.

my intention for this piece was to express a sort of broken hearted-ness i feel sometimes when it's snowy outdoors and i am really missing laying in the grass and journaling. the heart is meant to express that even when you feel like your heart is on the floor, all you need to do is reach down and pick it up, knowing that by holding it close again, the warmth will return.

  1. This is really beautiful. I love your color choices.

Isn't it great when you can just play with the colors, adding ink, smudging things and just seeing what happens?

  5. I love this: "the heart is meant to express that even when you feel like your heart is on the floor, all you need to do is reach down and pick it up, knowing that by holding it close again, the warmth will return." And I can so relate...I'm looking forward to my CA trip and getting some warmth and sunshine!
